The Lion King - Review

Image
Reliving happy childhood memories is always a lovely thing! I saw The Lion King 9 years ago at the same venue, (Sunderland Empire). So firstly, I have to absolutely mention the opening number as I believe it is one of the best in theatre! As in the film, it opens with with the iconic song, 'Circle of Life', Thandazile Soni as Rafiki drew the audience in with her astounding vocals and the animals came through the sides of the stalls as they entered the stage making the production feel that bit more immersive. The costumes for me, were really a stand out aspect. You could see so much detail and care had been put into creating them. From these incredible costumes and the set designs the show is so visually pleasing. This is something I think Disney shows do very well! The Lion King is a great family show and it was lovely to see lots of young children being truly immersed in the beauty of theatre. I witnessed them loving seeing their favourite characters, interacting with...

Big Night of Musicals - Review

Image
The National Lottery's Big Night of Musicals was back for the second time at Manchester's AO Arena on Monday the 27th February. I adored watching the show on the BBC last year but to be there in the room where it happens this year was incredible! We started off with a singalong to Any Dream Will Do to get the crowd going, into practicing the claps for We Will Rock You. So we started off with We Will Rock You which really got the corwd going! Then we had the likes of Matilda Shrek, The King and I, Six, Newsies - (omg, the choreography), Les Miserables- where you could hear a pin drop, The Bodyguard- showing off Melody Thornton's insane vocals, Wicked - after it just announced that Laura Pick will be taking on the role of Elphaba in the upcoming tour of Wicked, Ain't Too Proud - the life and times of the temptations, Hamilton, Aspects of Love, ending with Mamma Mia. Some standouts for me were of course, my favourite which is Wicked, Matilda - those kids and the whol...

My Fair Lady

Image
My Fair Lady- 02/02/2023 - Sunderland Empire My Fair Lady was my first show of 2023! It was such a 'loverly' one to start on!  I went into it knowing a few songs and had not seen the film for years... now on reflection, I really preferred the stage production to the film!  The cast were phenomenal, with Charlotte Kennedy portraying Eliza Doolittle amazingly! She really brought both the beautiful vocals and the comedy to the character! Henry Higgins demeanour was also hilarious!  However, a standout feature of the show for me had to be those amazing set designs and set changes!  Be prepared though as it is a long show, especially that first act so just be prepared to sit for a long time!  Be sure to catch it at the rest of its tour venues!
